Mumsnet is a very popular forum for parents. I have a habit of lurking on various topics, mainly their Chat forum and Am I Being Unreasonable forum. I’ve learnt so much from reading these threads, and find half of them hilarious. I’ve also learnt acronyms I never would have thought of using before, and am used to thinking of my family in Mumsnet-acronyms.
I’m not sure whether I want to be a proper poster though. It seems that you have to be super careful what you say, otherwise you could get flamed by other irate posters. There was a thread where the poster felt that it was okay to be moved into somebody else’s premium plane seats for free just because she had kids, and I would have hated to have been seated at her laptop, reading the replies.
There are funny threads though, like the one about the most middle class things that have been overheard. Funnily enough, hummus is mentioned a lot, and so are olives. Surely these aren’t really indicators that someone is middle class nowadays. Plus there’s a lot of stealthy boasting from various posters about how middle class their kids are, just because they demand babycinnos (some sort of coffee drink for children). I say, bring out the Ribena cartons!
